| CAST is happy to
announce our roster of shows for what is sure to be a crowd-pleasing 2010-2011
season.
The season gets an “electrifying”
start in September with the musical Grease, one of the productions
most requested by CAST audiences. Our December production will be Miracle
on 34th Street followed by Dearly Departed in early
2011. The fourth and final show of the season will be announced
at a later date.
NOTE:
Dates subject to change.
Perform
Sept 23-Oct 3.
Written by Jim Jacobs and
Warren Casey as an irreverent ode to their days as members of the 1950s
working-class youth subculture known as “greasers” , Grease
first debuted in the playwrights’ Chicago in 1971. Favorable reviews and
excellent box office caused the show to be relocated quickly to an off-Broadway
theatre in New York City, then just as quickly to Broadway, where it remained
for a record setting, award-winning, seven and a half years. With memorable
songs (“Greased Lightnin”, “Summer Nights”, “We Go Together“, “Born to
Hand Jive”), vivid characters and a plot equal parts comedy and romance,
Grease has spurred two successful Broadway revivals since its original
production. It is perhaps best known worldwide as the 1978 movie starring
Olivia Newton-John as “Sandy” and John Travolta as “Danny“. The perennial
film favorite remains the highest domestic grossing musical in the U.S.
Perform
Nov. 26-Dec 5.
The second production of
the new season took exactly the opposite route on its way to becoming a
beloved classic of the stage and screen. Based on the story by Valentine
Davies, Miracle on 34th Street first came to life in
the 1947 holiday film starring Maureen O'Hara, Natalie Wood and Edmund
Gwenn. The touching tale of a cynical young girl and her divorced, over-worked
mom renewing their spirits through belief in a Macy Department Store
Santa won three Academy Awards and the hearts of the American public. Adapted
for the stage by Patricia Di Benedetto Snyder, Will Severin and John Vreeke
in 2000, the enduring story will touch and entertain CAST audiences this
holiday season. Performances are scheduled for:
Fri, Nov 26 8 pm
Sat, Nov 27 2:30 and
8 pm
Sun Nov 28 2:30
Thurs Dec 2
8 pm
Fri Dec 3 8 pm
Sat Dec 4 2:30 and

Sun Dec 5 2:30 |
Perform
Feb 10-20.
Then in early 2011, CAST
will return to the comfort zone of the familiar as it presents the hilarious
Dearly
Departed by David Botrell and Jessie Jones. This story of a good
ole Southern dysfunctional family trying to get it together in time for
their patriarch’s funeral made it to the movie screen as Kingdom Come,
starring Whoopi Goldberg. Yet CAST audiences are just as likely to recognize
the tale as another of the down-home comedic farces penned by Jessie Jones,
co-author of recent CAST hits Dearly Beloved and Southern Hospitality
.
Perform
April 28-May 8.
The final show of the CAST
2010-11 season will be announced in the coming weeks, as will the dates
and additional details of each of the announced shows. For more information
